Bobbi Brown Inks Eyewear Deal

Through a licensing agreement with Safilo Group, the makeup artist will launch a line of optical frames and sunglasses in spring 2014.

Bobbi Brown is breaking out from the makeup counter and into the accessories department with its first premium eyewear collection.

Through a licensing agreement with Safilo Group, Bobbi Brown will launch a line of optical frames and sunglasses in spring 2014.

A company spokeswoman indicated that the deal was inked by Bobbi Brown, the makeup artist, and not via Bobbi Brown’s parent company, the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.

“I am excited to embark on this new journey with Safilo. I believe that makeup is a way for women to feel and look like themselves, only prettier and more confident,” said Brown, founder and chief creative officer of her namesake company. “As a makeup artist, I have looked at women’s faces for over 20 years and believe that my beauty expertise will translate naturally into eyewear, identifying the best silhouettes and colors for a woman’s face shape, skin tone and lifestyle. This is a new, innovative approach to interpreting eyewear.”

“We are very pleased to announce this new partnership with Bobbi Brown, a makeup-industry maverick who believes that beauty isn’t about looking perfect, but about celebrating a woman’s individuality,” Safilo’s chief executive officer Roberto Vedovotto said. “We want to replicate the huge success Estée Lauder is having with this brand by translating into her new eyewear collection a modern but classical feel designed to enhance a woman’s own innate beauty.”

Excluding the release of a slate of books throughout the years, Brown’s expansion into eyewear marks the makeup artist’s first extension into a nonbeauty category.
