Considered one of the French pioneers of ready-to-wear back in the Sixties, designer Emmanuelle Khan was best known for her iconic eyewear. Didier Marder is aiming to bring Khan’s unique look back with the launch of two retro eyewear lines for spring. “We realized that it was her eyewear that has really stuck in people’s minds. Her clothing labels even used to feature a photo of her in these big glasses,” says Marder, who acquired the brand in 2007 with the Dutch investment fund Rencorp and now serves as managing director of the revived label.

Handcrafted from thick acetate, six of the styles are replicas of originals, decorated with Swarovski stones or python or lizard embellishments. Marder also invited hip eyewear designer Thierry Lasry to revisit the label’s designs, resulting in eight uncluttered styles in four shades: black, ivory, tortoiseshell and red. The glasses retail from 300 to 480 euros, or around $400 to $650 at current exchange. “They will appeal to two kinds of customers: those who are into vintage eyewear and those who owned a pair 30 years ago and who can’t believe they’re back; they’re
completely hysterical,” says Lasry.
