MILAN — Safilo has signed a nine-year agreement with Fendi for the design, production and worldwide distribution of the Rome-based fashion house’s eyewear collections.
“We are really honored to announce this agreement with Fendi,” said Safilo Group chief executive officer Roberto Vedovotto. “We are proud to add a brand with such a unique and extraordinary heritage to our portfolio. The craftsmanship, which has always identified Fendi bags, accessories and clothes, along with the label’s artisanal and innovative approach in working fur, will be transferred and exalted in the eyewear collections through our expertise and skills in interpreting luxury companies’ codes and values.”
Vedovotto also highlighted that this agreement reinforces Safilo’s tight relationship with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. The Padua-based company already produces the eyewear collections of Dior, Céline, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
“The decision to sign a partnership agreement with the Safilo Group was born by a deep sharing of values and common goals,” said Fendi president and chief executive officer Pietro Beccari. “The know-how, the obsession for quality and the innovation, along with the history and the unquestionable experience matured by Safilo over the years in the eyewear sector, are all fundamental elements which perfectly meet the needs of a brand like ours, featuring a huge and deep heritage, but which is also innovative and always looking to the future.”
The first Fendi eyewear collections manufactured by Safilo will be unveiled in January and will hit high-end department stores worldwide and select international opticians.
Fendi’s eyewear collections were previously produced by Marchon.
Safilo manufactures and distributes eyewear for a number of international brands, including Alexander McQueen, Banana Republic, Bobbi Brown, Boss, Boss Orange, Bottega Veneta, Fossil, Gucci, Hugo, JLO by Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture, Kate Spade, Liz Claiborne, Max Mara, Max&Co., Pierre Cardin, Saint Laurent, Saks Fifth Avenue and Tommy Hilfiger.
