It’s not just about clothes. Three new sunglasses lines are hitting the runways.

Jason Wu is finally launching accessories — sunglasses, which he will unveil at his show today. The idea was a new take on traditional shapes, says Wu, who partnered with Modo Eyewear. And that mind-set conveniently carries over to his spring clothes, which include luxe sweatshirts and a silk tweed hoodie. The sunglasses feature updated versions of, for example, the classic cateye. “I turned down the curve of the cateye a bit and added a quirky element in metal details that look like a cat’s brow,” he notes. The four-style collection, with names taken from bygone muses such as Seberg (the cateye), Mia (oversize), Earhart (aviator) and Jett (retro Eighties), is priced from $250 to $350 at retail. They come in a plastic matte finish and hues such as aquamarine, topaz, caramel and opal.
Meanwhile, Alexander Wang also is unveiling a line of eyewear at his show Saturday. Done in collaboration with Linda Farrow, it features a cateye, wayfarer and a more angular style, priced from $130 to $145 at wholesale. They are named after cities Wang loves (London, Tokyo and Berlin), and, true to his m.o., they rock a seriously edgy vibe, whether with studded tips or zipper-teeth trims, on a palette of black, beige and turquoise. As for how it all connects to the collection, he says it’s all about counterpoint. “Spring is very much about classic American sportswear. The sunglasses give it a harder element.”
And more eyewear news: Anna Sui has signed an exclusive worldwide sunglass and optical licensing deal with Mondottica. While Sui remains mum on details for now, expect to see a few styles hitting her runway on Wednesday.
