Stone Island Launching First Eyewear Line

Italian luxury brand to debut collection of sunglasses at the Mido fair in Milan.

Stone Island is getting into the eyewear business.

The Italian luxury brand has signed a deal with the newly created EG Brand, which is financed by EG Finance’s Andrea Lombardini and Sergio Maiorana, for a collection of sunglasses that will debut at the Mido fair in Milan on Sunday.

Carlo Rivetti, Stone Island’s creative director and president, worked with EG Brands on the line, which will offer modern interpretations of iconic eyewear designs. All glasses will be made in Italy and offer lenses from Carl Zeiss Vision.

“For some time, I have been thinking that I would like to have the chance to design Stone Island glasses,” said Rivetti. “Recently I happened to hear of a small company that offers great quality, EG Brands, which showed determination and passion, offering to dedicate an exclusive design and sales structure to the brand for Stone Island sunglasses. I am well aware of the vast range of brands in the world of eyewear, but I am confident that, just like in the world of clothing, there is always room for new concepts with strong identity and content.”

The glasses will offer carbon fiber rims and are available in four colors — black, green, blue and red — which were created by using colored pigments suspended in transparent resin, leaving the texture of the carbon fiber visible. The retail prices have not been determined.

The collection will be sold at opticians, in Stone Island stores and in selected multibrand apparel stores.
