PARIS — Taking advantage of internal synergies, Fung Brands Ltd. said Tuesday that French luxury shoemaker Robert Clergerie has signed a five-year footwear license agreement with Sonia Rykiel.

The French luxury shoemaker will manufacture and distribute Sonia Rykiel shoes beginning with the spring 2014 collection, it said. Both labels are owned by Fung Brands, a privately held investment firm which also holds a majority stake in Belgian luxury accessories label Delvaux.
“With Sonia Rykiel and Robert Clergerie, we are investing in houses with a strong identity and very rare know-how. It is therefore natural to play on the dynamics and internal synergies of our group and in turn to accelerate the development of these companies,” said Jean-Marc Loubier, president of Fung Brands.
Sonia Rykiel, which Fung Brands aims to build into “a future global brand in terms of fashion,” is undergoing a revival under new artistic director Geraldo da Conceiçao, who showed his first collection for the house in March.
“I am very happy to be able to associate the name of Robert Clergerie with the relaunch strategy of Sonia Rykiel,” said Eric Langon, chief executive officer of Sonia Rykiel. “Their expertise will be an important advantage for our creative overhaul and international development.”
Clergerie last October appointed Eva Taub as ceo to spearhead the relaunch of the brand and its overseas growth. As part of its retail expansion, the shoemaker opened a space within a Delvaux store in Brussels last fall.
