The Air Up There
Crazy shoes? Designers can’t seem to get enough of them. After the success of spring’s statement styles—towering wedges and bondage sandals—the fall collections showed even more daring designs. Classic pumps, casual riding boots and ballet skimmers were trumped by mega platforms, fierce spiked heels and dangerous thigh-high boots. Of particular note: Nina Ricci’s 10-inch, cutaway wedge boots and embellished pink platforms. Both elicited gasps by onlookers as models teetered on the catwalk.
