MILAN — Ferragamo has a green heart.
The Florentine luxury goods house has created a line of environmentally friendly bags for spring called Eco Ferragamo to underscore the company’s core values and its focus on global conservation.
The bags are crafted with an innovative tanning technique that results in metal-free colored leathers without pollutants. They are dyed using tannins derived from tree barks, a process certified by the German Institute SG — Mark guaranteeing that no environmentally harmful substances have been used based on 10 strict parameters.
In addition to being biodegradable and water resistant, the soft bags have a natural texture and sheen.
The line includes five day bags, from small totes to a maxi hobo, which feature Ferragamo’s signature “Gancino” metal logo. The color wheel includes tobacco brown, lemon yellow and grapefruit pink.
Further bolstering the eco theme, the bags are lined in handwoven hemp, a highly resistant plant that doesn’t require the use of pesticides and returns nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil. They will be available in Ferragamo stores worldwide starting in February. The prices range from $1,190 to $1,890.
