Following X, his 10th season anniversary collection of greatest hits, British shoemaker Marc Hare has started afresh. “Last time was a retrospective but now I’ve scrapped everything and started again,” he said. As ever, a Mr Hare collection features “the essential shoes that every man needs,” from monk straps and brogues to Chelsea boots, skater shoes and platformed sneakers — all in heavy duty black leather save a trio of moccasins in softer metallic and pearlized finishes.

The presentation was staged in Elms Lesters, an old scenery painting building in Soho, complete with a phalanx of models on elevated platforms and soundtracked by an orchestrial performance of a composition by Libertines drummer, Gary Powell.

The band made up of cult percussionist Crispin and cellist Izzi Dunn, who plays with the likes of Jamie Cullen, had never played together before and only met half an hour prior to the presentation, Hare explained. In a nod to the building’s original use, grafitti artist Xenz was also on site creating a backdrop featuring a beautifully drawn hare.

Final departure for the brand was an additional line of leather goods, from tote bags to ipad cases — made from the leftover leather “we’d normally throw away.”
