The British footwear designer will open his first U.S. store there early next year.
Located at 807 Washington Street, the 1,500-square-foot flagship will be across the street from the Whitney Museum of American Art’s new building, which is set to open in 2015.
Kirkwood’s flagship marks the seven-year-old brand’s second store. The brand opened a shop in London on Mount Street in May. Additionally, Kirkwood’s shoes are stocked at 130 stores, including Barneys New York, Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman.
Kirkwood, 31, has already left his footprint on the industry, having won the Swarovski Emerging Talent for Accessories prize in 2008, followed by three nominations for the British Fashion Awards, including Accessory Designer of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
The designer, who has created runway shoes for the likes of Erdem and Rodarte, has a loyal following of celebrity clients that includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyoncé, Sienna Miller, Rihanna and Julianne Moore.
