Roger Vivier’s Bruno Frisoni donned an inventor’s cap for the house’s fabulous “One Is Too” spring couture line, a play on double acts. The shoe maestro’s intriguing hybrid started with a luxury stiletto designed to slip into a curved platform base, a concept he spent months perfecting with his cobbler in Italy. More of a flight-of-fancy than functional affair, these shoes were hardly destined for the tarmac, but more, as Frisoni put it, for ladies of leisure to wear “from the sofa to the bedroom.” Fine leather straps bound the two parts together, but for those intimidated by the idea of double-decker shoes, ribbon ties could also be wrapped around the foot and fixed into place with jeweled buckles. The look was rich, underscored by a lush nature theme that unfolds across the collection of shoes and handbags. Wild adornments ranged from jet crocodile beads to a pink blaze of curling rose petals that engulfed one of the line’s soft clutches. And perched on a pair of 20-karat gold mesh stilettos was a pink bird of paradise, its tiny diamond-studded head inspired by Damien Hirst’s infamous gazillion-dollar diamond-encrusted skull.
