Romain Kremer Named Camper’s First Creative Director

The first complete collection under Kremer is to arrive in stores in September in tandem with a new advertising campaign directed and photographed by him.

PARIS — Camper has named Romain Kremer its first creative director, WWD has learned.

The Frenchman has been associated with the Spanish footwear firm since 2009, creating a capsule each season for its Camper Together designer collaborations. He has consulted on its main collection since 2013.

The first complete collection under Kremer is to arrive in Camper stores in September in tandem with a new advertising campaign directed and photographed by him.

Hailing from the south of France, Kremer, 32, studied fashion at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris and presented his first men’s wear collection in 2005 at the International Fashion and Photography Festival of Hyères, where he won a Special Award for Creativity. He started showing his men’s label on the Paris runway in 2006, and was tapped by Mugler as head designer of men’s wear in 2011, where he remained for two years under then-creative director Nicola Formichetti.

Miguel Fluxá, Camper’s chief executive officer, said that Kremer’s “talent, unique vision and understanding of the brand” would help the company “step to the next level.”

Based in Mallorca, Camper operates almost 400 stores in some 50 countries, selling more than four million pairs of shoes a year.

In tandem with the first collection designed by Kremer, Camper plans to designate nine of its key metropolitan locations Lab stores with an exclusive selection of products.
