If you’re paying a premium for luxury, you should get exactly what you want, according to Cartier brass. Craftsmen at the storied French label have long customized their wares for top clients, whether adding favored gemstones to a piece or engraving a signature into the lens of a pair of sunglasses. Now, there’s a bespoke option for the Marcello bag. The satchel, with its elegant cutout corners and interlocking “C” logo pendant, is offered in myriad colors, skins and hardware (above, a bag rendered in gilded alligator). “Anything that is possible to do for our clients, we do,” says Marlin Yuson, director of leather creation at Cartier.
The bags take a minimum of three months to create at Cartier’s Florence workshop and start at $1,700 (800.CARTIER and cartier.com for information), though most are likely to price out considerably higher. To wit, one client has ordered a Marcello made from crocodile and adorned with solid gold hardware set with pavé diamonds.
