High Hopes

A bit of the rainforest is coming to the city via Amazonlife, a Brazilian accessories brand produced and distributed by Italian accessories firm Braccialini. The Guerilla collection comprises bags and sacks made of rubber drawn from Amazon rainforest trees and recycled Italian military camouflage. The rubber is extracted by hand using a drip method to collect the natural latex and worked by native seringueiros (or rubber tappers) from the Boca do Acre area in Brazil. It looks like leather with its glossy brown texture. The seringueiros strive to use natural resources in limited amounts and harvest the latex without causing long-term damage. Also eco-friendly, each bag is lined in fabrics from second-hand scarves or shirts ($284 to $425, available starting in September at amazonlife.com).
