Favaro, who will assume her post early next month, succeeds Elizabeth Kiester, who left the company.
Most recently, Favaro was design director for accessories at Tocca. She has also held posts including design director for both Kenneth Cole and Saks Fifth Avenue and senior designer at Kate Spade.
“I was looking to join a company with a true identity and I have always been a fan of LeSportsac,” said Favaro. “The brand has great, original designs and it’s always modern.”
Founded in 1974, LeSportsac offers accessibly priced collections of nylon handbags, travel totes, messenger bags and accessories. Known for its funky prints, the company has garnered recognition from the fashion community through its capsule collections with Stella McCartney and the Artist in Residence program, which features design collaborations with artists. The latest partnership is with B. Free, the tag name for Dutch artist Merijn Hos.
LeSportsac was purchased in 2005 by Brand Science, an affiliate of Accessories Network Group.
Favaro will report to Steve Jacaruso, president and chief operating officer of LeSportsac.
“We are pleased to bring Muriel’s energy and passion for design to LeSportsac,” said Jacaruso. “Her experience with men’s and women’s accessories makes her the right candidate for our company as we expand into a true lifestyle brand.”
