Salvatore Ferragamo will launch the brand’s latest handbag collection, Fiamma, at its show in Milan on Sunday.
Designed by creative director Massimiliano Giornetti, the collection is inspired by the Ferragamo family’s history. The name itself comes from Salvatore Ferragamo’s daughter Fiamma, who served as the brand’s leather accessories and shoe designer for almost 40 years. “The Fiamma bag was designed with the notion of creating a handbag that reflects the spirit of Salvatore Ferragamo and his legacy while paying tribute to his late daughter, Fiamma, and her contribution to the house,” said Giornetti. “Fiamma Ferragamo embodied the dynamism, creativity and innovation of her father, and created the house’s first handbag collection.”
The semicircular top handle design is offered in five different sizes, each with a functional pocket fastened with a lock adorning the outside. Other details include top-stitched ribbed handles, a double-zip hardware closure, removable adjustable strap and interior silk lining. The style will be available in a mix of materials including calfskin, python, ostrich, pony hair and crocodile, all accented with sleek metal hardware. Colors lean heavily towards shades of brown, as well as seasonal shades for fall, including plum, atlantic, grape and new bisque, a soft ivory shade.
Designs shown at Sunday’s runway show will focus on exotics, such as crocodile, pony hair and palmellato buffed calfskin. The interior lining for these pieces reinvents an archival foulard print from the Seventies. Ferragamo will also premiere a collection of miniature styles of the Fiamma on the runway. The limited-edition range will feature detailing done in precious materials including fringe embroidered napped, two-tone fox fur hand-stitched onto snakeskin, tweed with Swarovski crystal and stingray.
Prices for the line range from $1,650 for mini Fiamma to $28,000 for the medium-size Fiamma done in crocodile. The collection will be available for purchase beginning in May.
