The collection is to debut for holiday.
“I’ve always loved handbags; they are the most important accessory to me,” said Lohan, creative director for 6126. “The right bag can take any outfit to the next level, giving it that finishing touch and really making it complete.”
The leather bags, ranging from $165 to $395 at retail, will be sold alongside the 280-piece 6126 apparel collection in department stores and specialty boutiques. Kristi Kaylor, president of 6126, said the company is targeting retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.
“Our goal from the beginning has been to be a complete lifestyle brand, but we wanted to pace ourselves,” she said. “We did only leggings for one year, and just expanded to a full apparel collection, so the growth is organic.”
She said 6126 generates annual sales of $3 million, but declined to give a projection for the bags.
The collection comprises three groups — Starlette, Glam-A-Go Go and Kitten With a Whip — with a total of 12 styles, including two wallets. It incorporates fabric trim, hardware and beads, as well as apparel-inspired details such as ruching and corset gusset treatments.
“It was really important to me to design bags with amazing fabrications and really glamorous trims also were completely functional and easily transition from day to night,” Lohan said.
The Monroe bag, part of the Starlette group, is the collection’s designated “It” bag, a satchel with a detachable strap that can be worn five ways.
“I really wanted to make bags that would complement my apparel collection,” said Lohan, who added she was aiming for chic, versatile styles with a “classic glamour feel with a fashion-forward twist.”
For spring 2011, the 6126 brand will introduce a diffusion handbag line, called 7286 for Lohan’s birthday, which will launch in Dillard’s nationwide. The bags will retail for less than $168, and clothing is also in the works. The brand’s plans for 2011 include swimwear, shoes and cosmetics.
