Valentina de Laurentiis—niece of legendary film producer Dino de Laurentiis—may not be the best spokesperson for her accessories line, VdL. “I never carried a handbag before I turned 18—I pocketed everything before that,” says the designer, now 27. Despite her early indifference, de Laurentiis has quickly gained a professional reputation and will unveil her second season, spring 2008, outside of her home base of Italy, where her line is already available at 80 points of sale.
VdL comprises 18 modern and tough-looking pieces, from handbags to wallets, made from napa leather, nubuck, velvet and pearly skins, in the intense colors of blue, red, silver, white and black and embellished with clashing elements from metal buds to fringed applications. Each item is labeled after a glamorous movie star from the Forties or Fifties: Ava (Gardner), Bette (Davis), Marilyn (Monroe) and Edy (without the H, Lamarr).
“These bags mirror my personality: a mix of romanticism and glam-rock spirit,” says the designer, proud of the artisanal, Italian production of the line. Nicole Richie and Asia Argento recently were spotted with black versions of the Edy Lux Glam edition ($694).
Prices range from $235 for a napa leather Brigitte Glam wallet to $662 for the Sophia Glam model, up to $1,099 for the Henry Glam travel bag.

@chanelofficial is suing high-end vintage retailer @whatgoesaroundnyc for trademark infringement, a move that could cost the retailer millions.
