Pippa Small is known for traveling the globe in search of inspiration for her jewelry. Now, the fine jewelry designer is planting international roots with the opening of her first U.S. freestanding boutique. The boutique will open in November in Los Angeles in the Melrose neighborhood and will span 800 square feet. “I love the area, it’s up-andcoming, interesting and a little less obvious,” says Small, adding that the boutique will have a lounge feel, with regular exhibitions and displays of her jewelry collaborations with indigenous peoples such as the Batwa Pygmies of Rwanda and the Kuna in Panama. The store will also stock Small’s complete collection of jewelry, known for its organic forms using crystals, pebble-shaped stones and soft gold. Prices for the line run from 300 pounds, or $593 at current
exchange, for a pair of gold earrings to 3,000 pounds, or $5,934, for a gold necklace set with diamonds. Canadian-born Small launched her first boutique last year in West London and her collection is carried at stores including The Cross and Browns in the U.K. and Barneys New York in the U.S. Small spends 50 percent of the year traveling, and this year the designer was made an ambassador for Survival International, a charity dedicated to helping trade with indigenous people across the world. Next up, Small will unveil her latest collaboration with craftsmen in Afghanistan, inspired by Bactrian treasure.
