The man bag has been snubbed and scorned, the object of ample derision—hello, Seinfeld? But the male carryall also has been championed, defended and now maybe even envied by the fairer sex. A quick scan of the recent men's collections turned up a chic lineup of handbags that just might have women clamoring for their very own man bags. And we're not talking about a basic messenger bag, briefcase or backpack here. The season’s bags veered in a specific direction: oversize and luxed-up, two current ideals in the world of women’s accessories. Roberto Cavalli’s sizable bag, for example, is nicely punched up with a painterly graffiti twist, while Gucci’s ocean blue croc tote is perfectly roomy and practical—and also quite slickly posh. Next up on the wish list from the men’s shows? Those pleated skirts from Comme des Garçons.
