Gloves have long been conveyors of subtle sex appeal (think glimpse-of-the-wrist Victoriana), inspiring wearers from Marilyn Monroe to Madonna. For fall, designers offered a fresh spin on the traditional glove, subverting it to become a furry muff (Marni), a shiny, elbow-skimming gauntlet (Lanvin) or a lace-covered number (Phillip Lim). In an unintentionally timely twist, Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy seemed to channel the Gloved One himself, Michael Jackson, with a metal studded number, while Moschino’s had a kicky little phrase inscribed on the back. And spring may bring even more options, with Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy collaborating alongside glove maker Dorothy Gaspar. Hands up for that.
