Designers offered styles for every personality. Stephen Jones’ airplane cloches at Marc Jacobs are just right for the jet set. Meanwhile, the Palm Beach–inspired citron-hued plastic visors made by Eugenia Kim for Michael Kors are utterly utilitarian.
For indie devotees, a bevy of lesser-known milliners also made a splash by collaborating with top names. Albertus Swanepoel’s foot-high feathered bandleader hats for Proenza Schouler are downright bold, and Rod Keenan, who primarily designs men’s hats, worked with Behnaz Sarafpour on delicate toppers made from vintage Italian straw.
“Women are a little tired of the disheveled sort of look,” muses Swanepoel. “[Hats] polish things off.”
