• CONFERENCE ON CORAL: Jewelry industry leaders, along with scientists and environmentalists, will discuss the importance of coral at a conference Oct. 30-31 called “Coral, Symbol, Substance and Significance.” Tiffany & Co. chairman and chief executive officer Michael Kowalski, artist Michele Oka Doner and jewelry designer Amedeo Scognamiglio are among the speakers scheduled to discuss coral, which is at risk because of water pollution and other environmental causes. The conference at the City University of New York Graduate Center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan will examine the history of coral and its relationship to jewelry and the decorative arts. Designers set to speak include Stephen Dweck, Marilyn F. Cooperman and Sarah Graham.
