The skull-jewelry trend has undergone a reincarnation — but without the kitsch.

Designers are now crafting necklaces, cuffs, bracelets and earrings made to look like actual bones, whether it’s human, dinosaur or snake. A Peace Treaty’s “Matis” earrings were cast from a snake’s rib bone and a pair by Bernard Delettrez feature dangling purple skulls secured in the palms of skeletal fingers, while Noir’s dinosaur-rib-cage cuff is a nod to the prehistoric. Jennifer Fisher’s vertebrae cuff and Michael Spirito’s oxidized sterling rib-cage necklace were modeled after the human form, but sometimes it’s a little more abstract, such as the case with Assad Mounser’s “Devil’s Tower” collar.
