Fine Jewelry Joins Paris Couture Line-up

Boucheron, Cartier, Chanel Joaillerie, Chaumet, Christian Dior Joaillerie, and Van Cleef & Arpels present their collections by appointment.

PARIS — High jewelry is to be included in the official couture schedule from January as the top of the fashion pyramid looks to reinforce its appeal.

Fine jewelers including Boucheron, Cartier, Chanel Joaillerie, Chaumet, Christian Dior Joaillerie, Mellerio dits Meller and Van Cleef & Arpels are to present their collections by appointment on Jan. 28, the Chambre Syndicale said here Monday.

“It is a logical choice,” said Chambre Syndicale president Didier Grumbach. “Haute joaillerie was lacking a punctual event and haute couture offers the platform and the selective audience needed.”

The couture shows, which run Jan. 25 to 28, will also feature Paris-based Dutch couturier Josephus Thimister, who returns as the Chambre Syndicale’s special guest after a two-year hiatus from the fashion scene. Thimister, who left his role as creative director of Charles Jourdan in 2007, will present a collection during the shows, although a date has yet to be confirmed.

Thimister launched his eponymous ready-to-wear collection in 1997, after serving as creative director of Balenciaga from 1991 to 1997, and showed during the couture schedule in 1998.
