Katharina Flohr, managing and creative director of the Russian heritage brand and jewelry house Fabergé, is stepping down from her role there in July, the company said Thursday. Fabergé said Flohr is leaving to pursue her own projects and that the Fabergé design team, established by Flohr, will continue to work on all Fabergé collections. Robert Benvenuto will continue as president and chief operating officer of Fabergé.
Flohr, who joined Fabergé as creative director in 2008, took on the role of managing director in 2010. She oversaw the re-launch of Fabergé in 2009, and the creation of the house’s first high jewelry collection since 1917. During Flohr’s tenure, the company created 11 fine jewellery and watch collections, which were designed to nod to the legacy of Peter Carl Fabergé, the son of Fabergé’s founder Gustav Fabergé, who was known for creating the house’s opulent, jeweled eggs, along with jewelry and objets d’art. Flohr also undertook collaborations between Fabergé and artists such as Ian Davenport for Vistajet, created a store concept for Fabergé’s Geneva boutique with designer Jaime Hayon and directed the house’s first advertising campaign with Mario Testino.
Ian Harbottle, chief executive officer of Gemfields Plc, which acquired Fabergé in 2012, said that Flohr had played a “pivotal role in the transformation of Faberge during the last seven years.”
