A “modern-day version of Sarah Bernhardt.” That’s who Lorenz Baumer, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director for jewelry, envisioned when designing his latest collection for the house, which he named Chain Attraction. “I had in mind an interesting, exciting and challenging woman,” he said, using those same adjectives to describe his design process. “I want women to wear the jewelry in an unexpected way...as with a simple T-shirt to the grocery store.”
The collection was broken into four groups, each centered around a large pendant necklace and featuring bracelets, earrings and rings. With the Talisman line, Baumer interpreted the symbols for power, protection and luck with various stones. The centerpiece necklace was bedecked with Imperial topaz stone in an unusal reddish-pink hue. Set in front of white diamonds, the topaz cast a pink light on the diamonds. The Hologram group featured a blue tourmaline pendant that had a near-neon tint, while the standout in the Hypnose group was a long necklace made from extremely rare green Peacock pearls with a pendant in black onyx and emeralds. The Attraction group featured Mandarin garnets from Burma as a faceted center stone and rare bead-cut stones that hung like fringe from an opal-encrusted setting. It would indeed stop traffic at the local Stop & Shop.
