This week, Place Vendôme jewelers provide a peek at their latest pieces, most of which will be showcased at the 25th edition of Paris’ Biennale des Antiquaires, which runs Sept. 15 to 22 at the Grand Palais.

Van Cleef & Arpels

Epic adventure best sums up Van Cleef & Arpels’ latest collection, Les Voyages Extraordinaires, an homage to four works by author Jules Verne, including his sci-fi classic, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.” Highlights include a turquoise hot air balloon sautoir entwined with clouds and seagull charms, and playful mechanical pieces. Press on a whale’s fin, for instance, and a spray of diamonds and white gold is revealed.

The art of seduction inspired Boucheron’s 10 high jewelry sets, including the Stolen Kiss necklace, set with a 5-carat ruby to suggest red lipstick, and the Pretty Puff choker, made from white gold and diamonds with a sapphire-studded pom-pom, like a bejeweled powder puff. (Boucheron will not participate in the biennale this year.)

Chanel’s flight of fancy this season starts with the feather, specifically a reedition of the white gold and diamond brooch created by Coco Chanel for the launch of her Bijoux de Diamants collection in 1932. In the way of new plumage is an articulated Art Deco-style Fan cuff created from overlapping feathers set with black and white diamonds, and the Parade earrings, encrusted with dégradé orangey-pink sapphires for a shot of color.

Cartier’s biennale offerings are a cornucopia of bejeweled objets and nature-themed jewelry, such as a carnelian and onyx bowl and a rock crystal ring flaunting a 14.25-carat yellow cabochon sapphire.
