Opera singer-turned-jewelry designer Valerie MacCarthy says her experience performing on the opulent opera stage inspired her to take risks with her new eponymous line.

“I came from a world where when you walk out on the stage everything is seven times more excessive, the crazy makeup, the big wigs, the elaborate costumes,” says the soprano. “Because I came from the world of excess, I wasn’t afraid of going overboard in ways.”
While notably more refined and restrained than the often over-the-top world of opera, the 20-plus piece collection of mostly 18-karat gold necklaces, bracelets and earrings features semiprecious stones such as citrine, amethyst and topaz. Standouts include a gold pendant woven with citrines and a rose of France and amethyst ring.
And for the woman who likes to have options, some styles of bracelets, necklaces and earrings possess interchangeable stones. Pieces, some of which showcase stones pierced from front-to-back rather than in the middle to create a floating effect, retail from $250 to $2,500.
