NEW YORK — The 27th annual awards gala of the Women’s Jewelry Association honored leading industry figures.

Lifetime Achievement Award winner Susan M. Jacques, president and chief executive officer of Borsheims Fine Jewelry and Gifts, said in her acceptance speech, “Never negate the importance of the people you meet in life,” a theme that was echoed throughout the evening.

The gathering last week at Pier 60 here included a silent auction to raise funds for the WJA. The theme was “Swing Into Summer” and a swing band entertained more than 500 guests.

Awards went to Sarah Graham of Sarah Graham for fine jewelry and watches; Fiona Tilley of Gurhan for manufacturer, dealer, supplier for fine jewelry; Aida Alvarez of Birks & Mayors for retailer with more than 15 stores; Lula Halfacre of Traditional Jewelers for retailer with fewer than 15 stores; Shayne Kiesbuy of Erica Courtney for sales and merchandising; Helena Krodel of Jewelers of America for marketing and communications; Tanya Dukes of Elite Traveler for editorial, reporting, publishing, and Ruth Batson of the American Gem Society for special services.

Dave Bonaparte, group president of JCK Events, received the Corporate Award for Excellence on behalf of the firm and JCK Magazine. James C. Courage accepted the 2010 Ben Kaiser Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as a ceo of Platinum Guild International.
