OPEN FOR BUSINESS: Aspinal of London is plotting further retail expansion, with a new presence at the Dubai Mall, which opened Monday. Aspinal is working with Liwa in the Middle East and will debut with a pop-up, followed by a permanent store at the mall.Chief executive officer Lisa Montague said the company has already opened three stores in the Gulf, together with Liwa, over the past five years, two in Abu Dhabi and one in Kuwait."Last year, with a renewal of our partnership in discussion, Liwa opened the first retail concession in Robinsons department store in Dubai," Montague said."Now that we are committed to a longer-term future, we are confident in opening an important first presence in the retail environment at Dubai Mall. That is not only a regional shopping and leisure destination, but an exciting global window for the brand."Located on the ground floor of the mall's Fashion Avenues, the 260-square-foot pop-up will carry a number of specially made items including a Swarovski “Brit” Trunk, embellished with stones and leaves, a Trinket Red Land Snake Trunk and a Trinket Silver Shooting Star Capretto Merit trunk. The pop-up will run from May 21 to June 20 while the permanent store is slated to open in June and will span 1,200 square feet. It will carry the label's full collection. The interiors of the store feature two walls with floating shelves filled with the label's Trunk and Hatbox ranges. There is also a library room, which has a personalization machine for embossing. The Dubai opening is a part of the brand's rollout plan, which includes a further five stores set to open in the Middle East between 2019 and 2021.Montague said the customer in the Gulf loves leather, colors and quality with bestsellers including the Trunk clutch and Mayfair bags.Montague noted that the brand has a strong, developing business farther east in China. "The next steps are to strengthen our presence in southeast Asia down to Australia, where we have just started to partner with David Jones," she said.
