Debrett’s to Launch Accessories Range

British publisher taps Jodie Kidd to design the collection, launching for fall.

LONDON — Debrett’s, the British publisher best known for its etiquette guides and official register of notable figures and aristocracy, is launching a line of leather travel accessories with the model and sports presenter Jodie Kidd.

The collection will bow for autumn/winter 2013, WWD has learned. An announcement is expected today.

Debrett’s already produces a line of hand-finished diaries and leather-bound notebooks. It produced a series of notebooks with the aphorism “Think In Ink” on the cover for guests at the Zoe Jordan show at London Fashion Week.

Sarah Elton, the former managing director of Smythson, has recently joined the team, and it’s clear that Debrett’s has designs on that brand’s share of the high-end branded paper and small leather accessories market.

Kidd told WWD: “I’m a working and traveling mum, and I’ll be adding a chic, fashion-oriented and practical content to the designs. And I love carrying my diaries and all of my bits and pieces — like iPod cases.”

Joanne Milner, chief executive of Debrett’s, called Kidd, “an iconic figure in international fashion.”

“I am sure bringing together Jodie’s personal experiences of travelling for high fashion and sporting events and Debrett’s experience of quality and traditional British style will result in a unique and very successful travel accessories range,” he added.
