PARIS — Hermès International said Tuesday its newest leather goods factory would be located in the Technoland II industrial park in Montbéliard, and be operational in 2017.

Last July, Hermès revealed plans to open two such production facilities in eastern France to expand its capacity and meet thriving demand for luxury leather goods.

The maker of Birkin and Kelly bags plans to eventually employ 600 people in the Franche-Comté region, including the 210 artisans at its existing factory in Seloncourt.

In 2013, sales of leather goods and saddlery at Hermès expanded 8.8 percent at constant exchange rates, trailing growth of 17.9 percent in ready-to-wear and fashion accessories, and 14.8 percent for perfumes.
