Timeless designer Betsey Johnson is launching watches this summer.

This timepieces will be produced by long-time accessories licensee partner Haskell Jewels, LLC.

Johnson remarked on the venture, “It’s about time that I had my favorite watches made by my favorite jewelry company, Haskell. They’re timeless, iconic, Betsey-fied, and gorgeous!”

The forthcoming watches are predictably vibrant and colorful, with hot pink, leopard-print and sequined silhouettes.

Gabrielle Flalkoff, chief operating officer of Haskell said, “We’re all about the product, and being consistent with the [Betsey Johnson] brand. We think the watches really capture the Betsey aesthetic: ‘Attitude not age.’ She really has a cross-generational customer, the mother and daughter shopping for Betsey together. The watches are whimsical, but walk the line between whimsy and edgy.”

The Betsey Johnson watch collections, which encompasses 120 styles, will arrive in department stores in July, priced from $75-$400.

Flalkoff also noted that the watch market, like accessories in general, have been a bit of a safe-haven during the recession’s ups and downs. “We had a strong jewelry business in 2010 and 2009...for us, it’s a category that’s done well during these really tough times. And from everything I hear, 2010 was a very good year for fashion watches... If a customer wants a piece of fashion, it’s about updating her outfit (that isn’t new), and giving her a lot of look, a lot of Betsey for a great price,” she said.
