LONDON — Robbers continue to strike in London’s luxury shopping areas.
London’s Metropolitan Police appealed for witnesses late Wednesday, after an attempted armed robbery took place Monday morning at Watches and Jewelry of Bond Street, a boutique that carries vintage watches by houses including Cartier, IWC, Patek Philippe and Piaget.
The police said that six males on three mopeds rode toward the shop before ramming its door with a moped and striking it with a sledgehammer and an axe. One of the robbers then sprayed a liquid believed to be ammonia, leaving a security guard in need of hospital treatment with what the police called “potentially life-changing” injuries.
While no property from the store was stolen, since staff managed to operate the security shutters, the police said the raid caused several thousand pounds-worth of damage. Following the attempted robbery, the gang fled on the mopeds.
A spokesman for the Met Police said Thursday that no arrests have yet been made.
