Roberto Cavalli, Franck Muller Team for Watch Line

The timepieces are due out worldwide in fall 2012.

MILAN — The Roberto Cavalli Group said Monday it has inked a co-branding agreement with the Swiss haute horlogerie Franck Muller Group for the production and distribution of a Roberto Cavalli by Franck Muller watch collection. The timepieces are scheduled to bow globally in the fall and will be available in the designer’s boutiques, Franck Muller stores and selected luxury watch retailers.

“I have always been very impressed by the craftsmanship, the quality, the innovation, the style and the creativity of the Franck Muller Group. These are characteristics that have allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the watchmaking sector,” stated Cavalli, chairman of the family-owned company. “Our two worlds have a lot in common, and as a great watch collector I find that just like an evening gown, a watch tells and defines exactly the character and the state of mind of [the person] who wears it.”

The men’s and women’s watches are positioned to cater to different pockets and needs. At an entry level, retail prices range from 1,250 euros to 3,000 euros, or $1,584 to $3,801 at current exchange, to a core price of between 3,000 euros and 6,000 euros, or $3,801 and $7,602. The lineup also includes more sophisticated, luxury items at prices exceeding 6,000 euros, or $7,602.

“The new watch collection will be able to respond to the different needs of a clientele that is ever more [sophisticated],” said Cavalli chief executive officer Gianluca Brozzetti, describing the collection as “an exceptional product” that blends the designer’s “modernity” with Franck Muller’s “special capability” and technique.

Roberto Cavalli watches were previously produced and distributed under license by Italy’s Morellato SpA, at a different, more accessible positioning. Morellato will continue to produce Just Cavalli timepieces.

This is the first co-branding agreement for the Franck Muller company. Founded in 1991, the brand possesses more than 50 patents, 40 boutiques around the world and seven production sites in Switzerland.

Franck Muller, co-founder of the namesake group, described Cavalli as “a genuine artist whose source of inspiration comes from his passion for life.” Vartan Sirmakes, co-founder and ceo of the watch firm, said he was “honored” to take part in “the union of the two creative worlds of haute horlogerie and high fashion.”
