Glowing and full of energy, a pregnant Drew Barrymore came to the 12th annual WWD Beauty Inc Awards breakfast Wednesday at the Four Seasons in New York City with her husband in tow, ready to celebrate two exciting announcements: her award for color cosmetics brand Flower and the gender of her baby girl, which was revealed post-event.
“Work harder,” said Barrymore when asked what winning the award meant to her. “This means something incredibly positive along the way. You’re never done, but to think that you’re doing something positive and moving in the right direction is everything to make you work harder.”
Another star this morning was Leslie H. Wexner, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of L Brands Inc., who was honored with the Visionary Award.
“Being biggest doesn’t mean best,” said Wexner when reciting his acceptance speech.
In a room packed with beauty’s key power players, among the attendees were Leonard A. Lauder, chairman emeritus of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.; Frédéric Rozé, president and ceo of L’Oréal USA; John Demsey, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos.; Karen Fondu, president of L’Oréal Paris; Carol Hamilton, president of L’Oréal Luxe USA; Michele Scannavini, ceo of Coty Inc.; Heidi Manheimer, ceo of Shiseido America; David Greenberg, president of Maybelline New York-Garnier-Essie, and Jane Hertzmark Hudis, global brand president of the Estée Lauder Cos.
Also in attendance were Stefan Selig, executive vice chairman of global corporate and investment banking at Bank of America; Julia Goldin, global chief marketing officer of Revlon; David Neville of Rag & Bone, husband of Gucci Westman, and Arie Kopelman, retired president and chief operating officer of Chanel Inc.
There also was a contingent of retailers, including Muriel Gonzalez, executive vice president and general merchandise manager for cosmetics and fragrances at Macy’s; Bettina O’Neill, vice president and merchandise manager at Barneys New York; Cathy Masson, vice president of category management beat at Shoppers Drug Mart, and Pat Dean, senior vice president of category management and corporate brands at Shoppers Drug Mart.

BREAKING: Jonathan Saunders is leaving @DVF. The designer has resigned from his position as chief creative officer of Diane von Furstenberg, the company said in a statement on Friday. At the time of his hire, von Furstenberg said Saunders’ arrival symbolized and facilitated her stepping back from the day-to-day duties that occupy the work of a full-time creative director. The British designer joined DVF in May 2016 and was in charge of all product categories. #wwdnews
For @versace_official’s spring ad campaign, the brand emphasized the archival prints from the spring tribute collection dedicated to the late Gianni Versace. Four-time Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening has been waiting 20 years to play Gloria Graham in "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool," which will be released on December 29. The movie about Graham – a Hollywood star known for her controversial relationship with a younger Englishman named Peter Turner – is based off a memoir Turned wrote. "She felt vulnerable to him, because she loved him, she really did love him. And anyone that we really truly are in love with, we re vulnerable to in a very deep way," said Bening. Peruvian model @juanaburga_official – who is known for walking the runways of @rodarte, @viviennewestwood and @torybuch – is making the move to the big screen with drama “Los Últimos.” The film premiered in Argentina in November and arrives in the U.S. and Europe in 2018. London’s newly opened @designmuseum will look back on the life and work of Azzedine Alaïa in a show that the designer helped to curate before he died of heart failure last month. The retrospective, which Alaïa had worked on with Mark Wilson, chief curator of the @groningermuseum, will look at the impact of his work worldwide.
