Call it a rap beauty version of sparkle plenty. At Kimora Lee Simmons’ Baby Phat show Friday night, the designer’s love of bling was evident from head to toe. Christian McCullough for MAC Cosmetics created a smoky eye on the models, then thickly covered the eyelid and brow bone with glitter.
“It’s inspired by Billie Holiday, Clara Bow and the Twenties,” said McCullough, who went very heavy on the sparkle “to make the eye look wet on the runway.” (His secret to a smoky eye? “Prayer.”) McCullough added a bit of subtle color high on the cheekbone, finishing with burgundy lips on some models, orange on others.
Hairstylist Danilo, working for Linea Pro, also caught the Twenties vibe, using Linea Pro’s Titanium styling iron (thickly encrusted with Swarovski crystals, in honor of Simmons) to smooth the hair, then folded and wrapped hair around the iron for a marcelled look. Pantene’s volumizing spray and frizz cream kept things smooth.
