During an earnings call on Friday, E. Scott Beattie, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Elizabeth Arden Inc., disclosed that his firm has signed a beauty licensing deal with Rocawear, the clothing label cofounded by hip-hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter.
Rocawear was sold to Iconix Brand Group Inc. in April, but Carter remains involved in the business and is expected to be a guiding force in the creation of the fragrance. That means he will be taking his second tour in the beauty arena, after flirting with the industry via an investment in bath and body line Carol's Daughter. The licensing deal calls for Elizabeth Arden to produce an unusually ambitious array of products: men's and women's fragrances, cosmetics and skin care.
