NEW YORK -- Elizabeth Arden will sponsor the women's singles at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships this fall at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park here, the company said Wednesday.
Arden did not disclose financial details, but industry sources estimate the company will spend $1 million a year in sponsorship fees during its three-year contract, which is renewable.
Clairol sponsored the competition last year.
This year's tournament, which runs from Aug. 29 through Sept. 11, will be the second tennis event Arden has sponsored. Last August, it supported the WTA Challenge of the Women's Tennis Association in Washington.
"The prestige women's sport is tennis," an Arden spokeswoman said. "It's one of the few sports where women rank as highly as men."
