“The makeup takes its inspiration from a photograph of Lauren Bacall,” said makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, who was working backstage at Issa with MAC Cosmetics. Tilbury channeled Bacall’s effortless elegance with a statement mouth in a rich wine hue created using a MAC lip pencil in Hodgepodge and Viva Glam III lipstick.
“Wine-stained lips are going to be a key trend for autumn/winter ‘08 as a standout feature to liven up a nude matte base,” said Tilbury. She finished the look by filling in eyebrows with a taupe MAC eyebrow pencil in Lingering and added individual lashes to the outer corners of eyelids.
“For the hair, think rich, chic and youthful girls on safari,” said Lyndell Mansfield, who was working with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.art. “We wanted the hair to have a nostalgic feel without it looking too cinematic and set.” Mansfield worked Tecni.art Play Ball Texture Tonic into hair before creating deconstructed waves by bending locks into small ‘c’ shapes using a straightening iron to create a fluid ribbon-like effect. Hair was then brushed out and fixed with Infinium hairspray.
