PARIS — The idea for the beauty at Sonia Rykiel “was to make the girls look cool,” said Dick Page backstage before the fall 2012 fashion show.
“Everything is a bit degradé, a little bit worn off,” added the makeup artist, who employed Shiseido products. Take the blue-black cream eye shadow models sported, which would be coated with grease to melt the color somewhat and give it shine just before they went out on the catwalk. Their eyebrow volume was also pumped up with cream shadow in shades such as Leather, Caviar, Sable or Meadow, while lashes were given a bit of mascara and black liner was swept across the inside of peepers.
On lips, Page used Makeup Lacquer Rouge in Nocturn (RD607), which was then diffused with dabs of foundation. Skin was kept fairly natural, with cover-up applied only where necessary.
Meanwhile, hairstylist Guido Palau explained he fashioned “spaghetti-ish, stringy hair” and that the look was meant to be the antithesis of the luxurious clothes in Sonia Rykiel’s collection. Each model wore a black band covering her forehead and ears (reminiscent of ski apparel).
Product-wise, Palau utilized Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam on damp hair, followed by Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.
