PARIS — All of the models in Yohji Yamamoto’s show sported glossy black bobs with bangs.
Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman explained that the designer had wanted them to have the look of Rei Kawakubo, the founder of Comme des Garçons, with whom he had a relationship early in his career.
The inspiration for makeup artist Pat McGrath differed, however. She envisaged Seventies glamour and said the models were meant to resemble black-and-white photographs.
McGrath gave them “taupe-y”-smoky-colored eyelids, a beauty spot and glossy lip “all turned monochromatic,” she explained.
