Backstage at Z Spoke by Zac Posen, beauty was colorful and eclectic, inspired by street theater and performers. For makeup, there were three distinct looks, the main look being a bright cherry red lip with a metallic eye. The two other looks included a bold blue/green-infused eye and orange lips and the final look was a striking yellow eye and fuschia lips. All eyeshadows used were part of Maybelline’s Eye Studio quad color collections.
“This season’s Z Spoke by Zac Posen collection is all about celebrating the femininity, brains, humor and sex appeal of the American woman,” said Maybelline lead makeup artist Charlotte Willer, who created the look. “It has a strong vibe with pops of color. I want to mimic this aesthetic with the makeup.” Willer coated lashes with plenty of Maybelline Volum’ Express the Falsies Mascara for a “flirty feel” and cheeks were “chic” and “sculpted” thanks to Maybelline Mineral Power Blush in Gentle Pink. Brows were brushed up for an unkempt, windswept effect. “This look is very wearable and this soft-edgy mix is a fresh approach to makeup,” said Willer.
Hair, styled by Odile Gilbert for Got2b, also included three looks. One, a low ponytail of cascading curls tied with a black satin ribbon, the other a highly placed bun, with soft tendrils framing the face with both updos. The third, most dramatic look, included a French twist that spilled out into a heap of rocker-inspired curls on the top of the head. “We are doing a very curly style with baby curls in the front for balance,” said Gilbert, who used Got2B Freeze Spray to seal the updos.
Nails, designed by OPI, were equally detailed, and also featured three designs: a multicolored pastel tie-dye print, emerald green and ruby red French tip and a colorful leopard print. Tips were filed into an oval shape for a “polished” finish.
