Taking inspiration from David Bowie from the “Life on Mars?” video, makeup artist Dick Page for Shiseido created an electric pop of color on the eyes. “We wanted to create simplicity by just using one gesture,” said Page. “It was kind of a why not moment.”
Page began by applying Sheer and Perfect Foundation SPF 18 to the skin to keep it very bare. For the focal point, the eyes, he used Shimmer Cream Eye Color in Ice from the lid to the crease blending it up towards the brow. Then using a bold blue shade called Curaçao from the Limited Edition Eye Color, he fashioned a half moon figure by following the natural shape of the eye. To finish, Page kept the lips neutral with Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment.
Inspired by grunge with a European sensibility, Guido Palau for Redken kept the hair down with a bit of body. Palau applied Satinwear 02 on damp hair and blew it out straight. Then, he added Diamond Oil to weigh down the hair and created a slight kink around the neck region using a curling iron to give it some movement. The hair was kept flat to the crown and to the ends. “It’s a bit rock ’n’ roll in a nighttime way,” said Palau. “Not in a beachy bohemian way.”
Working with Marc Jacobs Beauty Hi-Shine Lacquer, while keeping the nail short and clean, manicurist Elisa Ferri painted one coat of Shiny, a clear glossy topcoat. “[Jacobs] wanted something that would complement and not conflict with all the different textures [in the collection],” said Ferri. “One coat is the equivalent to three coats.”
