PARIS — Christian Dior SA said Monday that Christian Lanis has been named chairman of Guerlain S.A., replacing Jean-Michel Paulhac, who left the company in mid-June.

Lanis, 46, is the president of Unilever Italy’s toiletries division. His appointment at Guerlain is effective Sept. 1.

Daniel Piette, the deputy general manager of LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton, will be Guerlain’s acting chairman in the interim.

With the appointment of Lanis, Guerlain is getting an executive who has spent his entire career in consumer product marketing.

Lanis joined Unilever in 1973, after a brief stint at France’s Lesieur, a food products company. At Unilever, he has had a variety of responsibilities, including director of marketing for the perfume and skin care division of Unilever France and coordinating the group’s toiletries products while headquartered in London.

Also on Monday, Dior named Eric Guerlain the deputy chairman of Christian Dior S.A., as well as a member of the Dior board. Eric Guerlain is the president of the supervisory board of Djedi, the Guerlain family holding company which owns 85.74 percent of Guerlain SA.
