PARIS -- Elf Sanofi, the health and beauty division of France's Elf Acquitaine, said consolidated sales in the first quarter rose 12 percent to $1.03 billion (5.97 billion francs) at current exchange rates. If company structure had not changed, sales would have grown 4.9 percent, Sanofi said.

Sales more than doubled at the beauty division to reach $156.6 million (908 million francs), thanks to last year's acquisition of Parfums Yves Saint Laurent.
