PARIS — In a move to build its fragrance business, Cartier has hired Bernard Fornas, currently director of marketing and international development at Guerlain, to become international marketing director of fragrances and accessories, a new post.
Fornas, 47, is scheduled to join Cartier in mid-April. He will oversee marketing for accessories and leather goods in addition to fragrances.
Fornas has been with Guerlain since 1984. He oversaw the launch of the Samsara women’s fragrance and Guerlain’s recent diversification into accessories.
He said he will leave Guerlain because he sees no possibility for further career development there.
“I’ve been very happy at Guerlain and I am satisfied with the evolution of the company from a 650-million-franc business when I started to a 2-billion-franc business today,” he said.
Fornas started his career at Procter & Gamble in 1972. He moved to International Gold Corp. in 1976 and rose to general manager of Europe before joining Guerlain in 1984.
