First came the MTV Europe Awards,hosted by Eva Longoria and held in Madrid.The antics are usually every bit as crazy as thoseat the American show, and the hair and makeupfollowed suit. Rihanna’s flaming scarlet hairinfused her classical French-twist updo with apunk edge, while Taylor Momsen went Goth withRocky Horror rimmed eyes and a crimson mouth.Ke$ha (winner of Best New Act) hit the redcarpet artfully mussed, then added tribal-inspired glow-in-the-dark body paint for herperformance later in the evening.

More staid—much more staid—wasthe hair and makeup at the CMAAwards, hosted by country superstarsCarrie Underwood and BradPaisley. On hand were actressesand Nashville newcomersGwyneth Paltrow andLeighton Meester, who star in theupcoming Country Strong, JulianneHough, the Dancing With theStars beauty who’s a country musicsensation, too, and Taylor Swift.Beautywise, almost everyoneplayed it safe, with gentlytousled hair, softly smoked eyesand a natural mouth.

Justin Bieber took the tophonors at the American Music Awardsin late November, but the real star ofthe show was Taylor Swift, who unveiled a modnew look with blunt bangs and poker-straight hair.Rihanna, too, proved change is good, with a halo ofpretty red ringlets, and Avril Lavigne, who sportedan Op Art–inspired manicure patterned after herdress, was another standout beauty winner.
