NEW YORK — Karl Lagerfeld’s first women’s fragrance in more than a decade is expected to be launched in Europe in the fall.

As noted, the new scent will be called Sun, Moon and Stars, and it will be launched first in the major European markets before being rolled out to the U.S., probably in 1995, according to sources close to Elizabeth Arden, which is Lagerfeld’s fragrance licensee.

Lagerfeld’s only other women’s scent, KL, was launched here in 1983. Arden also manufactures three men’s scents with the designer: Lagerfeld, introduced in 1978; KL Homme, 1986, and Lagerfeld Photo, 1990.

A spokeswoman at Arden’s Parfums International Division declined comment on the new women’s fragrance Thursday, saying that the company’s executives were traveling.

While the Lagerfeld project is a go, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Madonna’s would-be scent. Rumors persist that she continues to talk to Arden about a fragrance, but a company spokeswoman said only that the report was “hearsay.”
